On February 27, the TBAISD Farm to School team visited Courtade Elementary School’s cafeteria to facilitate a lunchtime taste test. Courtade students had fun sampling apples, juicy pears, and cantaloupe as well as tasting a healthy, homemade fruit dip (recipe). Students enthusiastically voted for their favorite fruit on posters that will be displayed in the cafeteria. After students sampled the fruit, they were able to explore a variety of fruits and vegetables that can be grown in Michigan. The vegetables ranged from the common (tomatoes, onions) to the sometimes-unfamiliar (kohlrabi, eggplant). Students asked questions, told food and cooking stories, and one fourth grader, upon seeing the eggplant, shared an impassioned endorsement of baba ganoush (roasted eggplant dip)!
